AFCON 2025 – Mid-Tournament Audience Check: What TV Data Is Already Telling Us

As AFCON 2025 moves beyond the group stage, TV audience data is beginning to reveal clear directional signals — without locking in final conclusions.
Through AUDIMATIC’s Public TV Audience Dashboard, we continue to observe how viewing behaviour evolves match by match across key markets.

Early audience signals

  • Kick-off remains the strongest audience trigger, with several matches showing audience levels doubling — and sometimes tripling — compared to daytime viewing.
  • National broadcasters continue to anchor attention, often reaching match-time peaks above 20% and, in some cases, surpassing 50% of total TV viewing.
  • Audience concentration varies sharply by country: some matches drive near-total convergence, while others remain highly competitive and fragmented.

Different markets, different rhythms

  • Algeria stands out for its strong convergence, with ENTV repeatedly acting as the primary destination during high-tension moments.
  • Egypt illustrates mixed behaviour, combining strong sports-channel spikes with sustained entertainment and drama consumption.
  • Morocco continues to display stable all-day leadership, reinforced — rather than replaced — during match time.
  • Tunisia shows a more competitive dynamic, where leadership frequently shifts between multiple national channels during matches.

What we’re watching next
As AFCON enters its knockout phase, the key question is no longer if football moves audiences — but how strongly and how predictably it does so under increasing pressure.
Audience dynamics continue to be updated daily on AUDIMATIC’s Public TV Audience Dashboard.

AFCON 2025 Group Stage Wrap-Up – What TV Audiences Across Africa Tell Us

As the AFCON 2025 group stage comes to an end, one conclusion clearly stands out: football remains one of the strongest drivers of TV audiences across the continent.
Using AUDIMATIC’s Public TV Audience Dashboard, we followed audience behavior match after match, across multiple countries — revealing strong, consistent, and highly instructive patterns.

Key audience insights from the group stage

National broadcasters dominate match moments
Across Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia, national channels consistently became the primary audience destinations during matches:

  • Algeria: ENTV reached peaks above 50% of total TV audience, and over 77% among national channels, confirming its role as the undisputed reference for national team fixtures.
  • Egypt: Sports broadcasters such as ONTime Sports and 5 LIVE recorded sharp spikes at kickoff, with match-time shares rising far above daytime averages.
  • Morocco: Al Aoula demonstrated strong all-day leadership, reinforced by significant increases during live match periods.
  • Tunisia: Viewing remained highly concentrated, often shared between Tunisia 2Tunisia 1, and Nessma Ejdida, with match peaks exceeding 20% across all channels.

A clear before / during match effect
Across multiple dashboards, the same pattern emerged:

  • Before kickoff, generalist channels dominated daytime viewing.
  • At kickoff, audiences shifted rapidly toward national and sports broadcasters — often doubling or tripling their usual audience levels.
